project “ATH”

“dream of a city and then get out there and make it”
local/athens, 2007

“ATH: Commuting in Madness” is Fixed Gear Athens’ film project. Couple of years back, local/athens collective – organisers of the Athens Alleycat Race- were flirting with the idea of filming some urban cycling action. After a few tries with different directors and filmers, the result was not satisfactory. At the same time Haris from Silent Progression was starting doing video edits, filming Christian here and there. When they finally decided to get it together project “ATH” started becoming a reality.

“ATH: Commuting In Madness” was filmed within a year and features all of the fixed gear riders that could handle Athens’ traffic riding brakeless at the time. The filming is more spontaneous and follows a “see as it goes” strategy rather than being totally thought-out. WE believe this is its hidden charm!

The film is 35 minutes long aprox and features the first group of FGA riders. It was filmed on location in Athens.

The premiere was on January 2010 in front of an exciting crowd of 500 people. It was then screened in Austin, Texas, Munich, Germany, Skopje, FYROM and was accepted by the Bicycle Fim Festival 2010. Champion Visons Japan showed interest in distributing the movie in Japan and so it happened.

A new film project is on its way, following the prorgression of pure pista riders. Hopefully, it will feature some riders from abroad riding in Athens and it will showcase the musical talent of some of the most promising bands of Athens.

But for this you will have to wait a bit!

“This film was made by the collective effort of a few commuting riders with no financial help or promotional purposes by any commercial party.

Its purpose is to inspire people to ride a bike, any bike, even in the most brutal and traffic congested city west side of Bagdad.

Athens is a beautiful city.

If you see us ride hard on its asphalt it’s because we dream of rivers running inder its highways.

Support all underground culture!

Go Independent!”
